RESEARCH
Effective approaches to treating survivors of persecution require a nuanced understanding of their experiences in their countries of origin, during their migration journey, and as they resettle in their new communities. It is essential to not only document exposure to ill treatment, but also areas of support, resilience factors, and coping strategies.
The MSHRP is dedicated to contributing to the development of new knowledge in the field of human rights through robust qualitative and quantitative research. Our studies explore trends in human rights abuses, the physical and mental health correlates of exposure to violence, client outcomes, and training evaluation. We share our findings through peer-reviewed publications in order to aid the identification of culturally-responsive and trauma-informed clinical best practices, potential avenues for advocacy, and responsive policy solutions that center both the perspectives and voices of survivors of torture.
