Volunteer: Physicians + OHCP — The Mount Sinai Human Rights Program

Dear Mount Sinai Health System Colleagues,

The Mount Sinai Human Rights Program is currently seeking licensed volunteer physicians, psychologists, nurse practitioners, and licensed clinical social workers (LCSWs/ LICSWs) to address the growing number of pro bono evaluation requests that the program receives.

In particular, there is a shortage of licensed mental health professionals available to complete these essential evaluations for asylum seekers. The documentation of evidence provided by trained clinicians through an examination, medical affidavit, and oral testimony is often the difference between an individual being granted asylum and relief from deportation or being forced to return to persecution in their home countries. Health providers are uniquely positioned to work at this intersection of health, human rights, and social justice, and to make an impact on the lives of those who have faced egregious human rights abuses.

Our program is committed to providing the training and mentorship necessary to assist licensed clinical professionals at Mount Sinai in developing the skills necessary to become both confident and competent in their ability to provide trauma-informed and culturally-responsive documentation of torture and ill treatment.
